Dirty City...

Okay, so unlike most people, these guys heeded the wind warnings and took down the Red, White and Blue, in diligent anticipation...

I don't know, however, if they were expecting this scene

...to so quickly devolve to this:

Our winds were gusting up to 60mph. You could hear our old building creaking, although gladly, you couldn't feel it swaying.

For those of you that aren't in Texas or familiar with this kind of 'weather,' basically, a very strong front moved through rural west Texas and picked up a wall of dirty, pushing it several hundred miles in our direction. Basically, a normal spring day in Lubbock...but not one Fort Worth sees almost ever.

Shortly before this great wall of dirt encompassed downtown, we were watching out our windows while the fierce winds were catching stray leaves on the street, and shooting them straight up about 100 feet, before they would join a whirling vortex of other leaves in a mini-tornado. It was wild to watch...

Ah, yes. I happened to pick Saturday to be driving down I-35 from Denton to Fort Worth. I had no trouble keeping both hands firmly on the wheel. (I did, however, find it difficult to pry them loose when I finally arrived safely in Fort Worth.)

Eeewww. Dirty. Makes me want to go clean the grit out from underneath my fingernails just looking at these pics!

A good friend of ours here at work who also lives close to downtown went outside right as it was hitting, to close the garage and get the dogs, and she said her face was covered with dirt when she got back inside. Her exact words were:

"I'm going to have to moisurize the inside of my nose!"
